Precious Coral, the “gem treasure of the Sea,” has long been known for its legendary beauty and blessings of good fortune. Inspiring many stories from ancient times, this noble gem was revered by the Romans, Egyptians, Greeks, Chinese, Indians and Moslems for its spiritual powers, decorative and medicinal uses.

The Greeks considered coral helpful in the treatment of skin troubles, sore eyes, and blood spitting or tuberculosis. Greek sailors also believed that coral bound to the masthead with seal skin would prevent wind and storms. It was also believed that anyone who wore red or white coral could quiet storms and safely cross broad rivers, and bestow wisdom on its owner.

One of the oldest talismanic jewelry — nararatna, the “nine-gem” jewelry, which mentioned that the coral is dedicated to Mars, and the direction of South. The Zuni and Navajo of Native American culture use coral in their silver work. The appreciation of coral as an ornament or for amulets, seems to presuppose a certain development of civilization. For centuries, coral was classed among the precious stones, to retain its power as an amulet. Their natural color and smooth surface make them highly prized for jewelry and art objects.

This gem has been favored since ancient times for its reputed healing powers. It is believed to balance the body, relax the emotions and mind, and promote a strong and stable personality.
